  • Executive summary

A new legal entity, a new ERP and an aggressive deadline

A multi-billion-dollar US dairy products manufacturer and marketer set up its direct store delivery (DSD) business as a separate legal entity. The legacy AS400 system was hard to scale, offered weak reporting and left processes fragmented and manual.

DynaTech delivered an AS400 to Dynamics 365 migration for the DSD business, configuring D365 Finance and Supply Chain Management, Management Reporter and Microsoft Reporting Services in three months. The new entity covers finance, procurement, inventory, sales, fulfilment and route-based delivery, with role-based security and a structured data migration.

Challenges & objectives

A legacy system that could not support growth

The DSD business ran on fragmented, manual processes. Pricing and discount structures — multiple tiers and seasonal schemes — were too complex to manage manually, and the AS400 offered limited reporting, an outdated interface and little room for growth.

Moving to D365 meant cleansing and reconciling large volumes of customer, vendor, product, financial and transactional data, winning user adoption and keeping customer service and supply chains running during the switch.

Pain points

Fragmented workflows

Business activities were not integrated, creating inefficiency and manual dependency.

Complex pricing and discounts

Tiered and seasonal schemes were hard to manage manually.

Data blind spots

Weak reporting made timely decisions difficult.

Limited scalability

AS400 was ill-suited for growth and evolving needs.

Outdated user experience

An older interface reduced productivity.

Migration risk

Duplication, misalignment and disruption if data was not managed carefully.

Target KPIs & goals

  • Improve pricing accuracy
  • Shorten reporting turnaround time
  • Build scalability and growth readiness
  • Improve inventory accuracy and movement tracking
  • Raise financial reporting accuracy and automation levels
Solution overview

A unified Dynamics 365 platform for direct store delivery

DynaTech configured a fully operational DSD legal entity in Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management — financial structures, organizational hierarchy, customer and vendor masters, product setup, tax configuration, security roles and workflows — so the business can run independently while staying aligned with enterprise governance.

Because the ISV for route-based delivery was not in place, DynaTech built custom developments to support this direct store delivery ERP requirement within the wider dairy manufacturing ERP landscape.
